Re-opening walkthrough: new products & edibles news

Howdy friends,

It’s been a while, and I’ve re-opened my shop! I’m feeling very accomplished about it. Most of re-opening was very unexciting back end stuff. I wish I just used sh*pify, but I was being paranoid and a cheapskate…(crying in wordpress hell). I was really struggling before, but now I can do cool things like embed audio from my personal library of jrock (boo get off the stage nobody cares).

Anyways, the main idea is still the same–just me selling stuff I make.

Bakery items and merch are through the webshop, and edibles are through the order form. For now, pick-ups and delivery options are pretty limited. Hopefully it won’t be like that for too long, but I’m still figuring stuff out.

I’m spending most of my time developing new products, planning for the future, and generally just easing back into things (and sometimes looking for a job). I hope you will be patient with me!

The Future of Edibles

I’m moving towards doing less for the edibles side of operations. That doesn’t mean that edibles are being discontinued. But what does this mean?

It means that I’ll be prioritizing shelf-stable/storage-friendly products. I will still make new edibles products, but since I’m shifting my focus to general baking, the edibles will get less frequent new releases/new flavours. It also means I probably won’t be making content and promoting my edibles that much. With AI-bot-powered shadow bans, it’s not like I can really anyways, and I’ll be relying on trusty word-of-mouth.

Currently, I’m stocking “pantry” items: matcha fish, caramels, and honey. But, I have a granola in the works as well! I’m super excited about the granola!

I don’t want to say goodbye 4ever to the cookies, but they won’t be in regular rotation anymore. With the shift in direction, it just doesn’t make sense (and they take up a lot of room). They’ll probably make a guest appearance here and there, most likely if you come to an in-person event. *BTW the 10mg cookies are on sale right now for $5!*

Throughout my hiatus, I thought long and hard about quitting edibles, and I still flip-flop constantly between the decision. On one hand, I have a lot of fun making edibles. It’s very rewarding, and I love the community! And there’s still so much with edibles I feel like I can do. On the other, I’m feeling blocked in by all the challenges and sometimes criticisms that come with working with cannabis. It really drags me into an anxiety hole. So basically, I’m still doing edibles, just less & differently.

New products!

I’ve made a couple new products. If you’ve read the substack, you will have already met them.

Touch Grass roll cake

The “Touch Grass” cake is a little treat to remind you to take breaks and enjoy the grass. There’s a weed joke somewhere in there, but there’s no weed in this cake…(so there’s no joke).

It’s a slice of chocolate sponge rolled with matcha mascarpone whipped cream, which then gets a coat of cocoa glaze before being decorated with matcha ganache montée and a sprinkle of matcha powder.

Our silly stoner snails top each slice as a plastic (please don’t eat) cake topper. I’m going to have a topper return system, but I haven’t thought of what the reward would be for returning them. But yes, hang on to them! Because you don’t want them, I want them back! (Come home ET, come homeeee…)

When I first came up with this idea, I wanted a cake with lots of chamomile flowers, like a summer field. That was quickly abandoned because it’s too hard sourcing pesticide-free fresh chamomile flowers in small batches, like this isn’t California. Then I thought it would be so funny to have a “NO DOGS” sign and a cake topper of a dog peeing but realized that would be unappetizing. Finally, the cake topper was going to be a frolicking dog, but I ended up using the snails as a test run. They looked so perfect in the grass that they became end game. Some of my friends are interested in designing some cake toppers. I’ll have to follow up with them when I’m a bit more free, but it would be so cute to have more topper designs.

Cloud Puppy cake

The “Cloud Puppy” is a 3-inch mini cake named for how soft, bouncy, and fluffy they are. And I made it look resemble a dog lol.

Each puppy is crowned with a fresh berry! It’ll be either a raspberry or blueberry (or maybe even a strawberry), just depends what looks better at the fruit stand.

The cake itself is so tender, squishy, and airy. For maximum fluffiness that doesn’t compromise moisture, I use a japanese-style chiffon, flavored with a real vanilla bean. I personally love the texture of vanilla bean. The grit and flavor feels like luxury! The cake is frosted in organic cream, that’s made of JUST CREAM (no carrageenan here!), chantilly, which is a sweet, fluffy whipped cream. I’d say my chantilly tastes like ice cream: mildly vanilla-y and super creamy in a vanilla milkshake way.

These cakes are a little call to all the birthday cakes bought at asian bakeries, but this one you can eat all by yourself! When I was younger, I only got one slice of birthday cake, and even that, I would have to share, so the scar runs deep.

Actually the Cloud Puppies look really wonky before. I thought maybe the wonkiness was cute, and I’d keep it that way. But I beautified them for the sake of mass appeal (and I improved my frosting technique). I love eating them. I’m kind of severely lactose-intolerant, but I’d say this is worth the risk.

So yes friends, that’s mostly it.

The instagram stories have all the real sneak peaks of what I’m working on, but I think I’m going to have a not-mcD apple pie soon-ish. So stay tuned!

And thank you so much for all the support! I’m shocked and amazed I even get any orders. I’m full of awe and gratitude that people give me money to make things for them. I’d like to think that one day this could be my job and I can quit this horrible cycle of wage slave, unemployment, wage slave, unemployment etc.

Anyways all to say I am very happy and grateful to you!
